I have practiced conventional (aka “allopathic medicine”) for 25 years in the capacity as an inpatient medicine specialist, caring for severely ill patients in the ER, hospital wards, ICU, and rehabilitation settings. While practicing conventional medicine was both rewarding intellectually and personally, i became disappointed in the lack of mindfulness and acceptance of more natural approaches to healing and maintaining optimal health. The conventional healthcare industry is hugely profit-driven and it needs a massive supply of ill patients to feed its profit-making model. There seems to be no intention to help society find better means of preventing disease and no interest in supporting natural treatments that are safer and more compatible with the human systems of health.

I discovered cannabis medicine in 2005 while exploring scientific papers from Israel and other countries that have allowed for research into cannabis— which the United States government has blocked for over 80 years here in America. I learned that cannabis has been used as medicine for over 10,000 years in human culture and that, as recently as 1937, most doctors in America carried a bottle of cannabis tincture in their doctor’s bag as a treatment for many ailments. It was at this moment that the “veil was lifted” for me and I began to discover that cannabis has and continues to be a powerfully effective, safe, and wonderfully available source of natural healing that would become my primary area of research and clinical practice for my patients.

In addition, I re-examined my understanding of the ancient complementary healing techniques such as Chinese Medicine, Therapeutic Bodywork, Chiropractic, and other newly emerging systems of healing. I personally experienced each of these techniques over time to treat my own illnesses and formed a direct understanding of how effective they are. I utilize this understanding to help guide my patients towards these techniques when it is called for.

As a species on planet Earth, the human race is evolving constantly. Not just physically and mentally, but socially and ecologically. We are discovering a return to a more natural-based lifestyle in our nutrition, work, activities and even ways of using our mindfulness to find better balance and wellbeing on all levels. As we drop away from the toxic and destructive models of synthesized chemical solutions and destructive business-driven strategies, we are similarly finding within ourselves a new understanding of how our biology is also the same biology as the planet we live on. The more we integrate our biology with that of a clean and healthy planet, the more we find ourselves in healthy balance and peace. This is our birthright and our journey.

Holistic Pelvic Care was created by Tami Kent, a women’s health physical therapist who succeeded in creating a gentle and effective way to physically, emotionally and energetically restore balance the pelvis. Using breathwork, guided imagery and gentle release of tension patterns held deeply within the musculature of the pelvis this work aids in strengthening core muscles, improving sensation and improving overall well-being in the pelvis. Holistic Pelvic Care is especially helpful in the post-partum time to resolve symptoms such as pelvic musculature weakness, pelvic pain and unresolved feelings around birth-trauma.

Dr. Kayla Luhrs M.D.

Dr. Kayla Luhrs grew up in Ketchikan, Alaska salmon fishing, berry picking and watching black bears from her swing set. She went to the University of Wyoming for undergrad, followed by medical school in Seattle at UW where she did a “rural/underserved longitudinal training track” spending time in Port Angeles, WA and different cities all over Alaska. Another highlight of medical school for her was spending 10 weeks in Gulu, Uganda training with local medical students in the hospital while taking a course together on social determinants of health.
For residency, Dr. Luhrs went to Tacoma Family Medicine where she focused on women’s health, wilderness and travel medicine, urgent care and community health. She enjoyed seeing her own patients in her primary care clinic during residency, but was bothered by a few things: read more

1.  Even though pharmaceutical companies are producing more and more drugs, “dis-eases” such as obesity, diabetes, heart problems, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, attention deficits, and fibromyalgia are on the rise.
2.  We have research showing things as simple as the food we eat, how we breathe and the way we move our bodies can greatly improve, or even cure, obesity, diabetes, heart problems, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, attention deficits, and fibromyalgia.
After residency Dr. Luhrs traveled to Mysore, India where she did her 200-hour yoga teacher training and visited medical schools and research centers, partnered with US institutions such as Harvard and Stanford, studying the effects of yoga on health. Yoga, which often gets overly represented as a physical exercise in the West, is actually a piece of “Ayurveda”, the oldest recorded healing system in the world. Meant to maintain the quality and longevity of life, Ayurveda focuses on strengthening the incredible self-healing capacity of the body using mindfulness, breathing techniques, and proper food choices.  She completed her Ayurvedic yoga therapy certification and 500-hour yoga teacher training here in Portland while working part-time as an urgent care physician at the Portland Clinic.
Dr. Luhrs practices “cradle to grave” medicine and is comfortable seeing patients of all ages with most medical conditions.
When working with patients she discusses nutrition, yoga, meditation and herbal medicines, in addition to contemporary modern medicine options, then works with people to create individualized holistic treatment programs based on lifestyle, goals, symptoms, and family history.

Jessica Peatross, MD

Dr. Jess is a western trained medical doctor who began her journey into healing in 2009 when she graduated from the University of Louisville internal medicine residency program. She is passionate about teaching people how to be their own best doctor by educating themselves and listening to their body.
After debilitating anxiety and mounting health issues, in 2012, Dr. Jess had a huge personal awakening. She began to see that western medicine did not have all the answers she was so earnestly seeking. Answers she wasn’t just seeking for herself, but also for many of her patients. She became more aware of the advancement of technology, yet the poor advent of cures for diseases or discovery of the root causes of chronic illnesses or cancer. read more

Dr. Jess made the move to the west coast in 2013 where she took some time off work, took up meditation, became a certified yoga teacher, traveled the world, learned about energy work, muscle testing, ozone therapy, studied Ayurveda and found herself. She now fully believes that health begins with Divine, Self Love and Care.
Dr. Jess is also a Gerson therapy practitioner and is excited to offer this knowledge to anyone with a chronic condition, cancer or just needing a detox. In retrospect, Dr. Jess knows she had a unprompted kundalini awakening and was graciously led down the path of enlightenment and her own divine mission. She now believes western medicine is only a piece of whole health. Mind, body and spirit are all connected and need intimately tended to for full happiness. This is the basis for Holistic Consults. As hospitals firmly hold onto their aging beliefs, patients and clients are asking for more from their healthcare providers. Dr. Jess believes that personalized, preventative and functional treatment plans are the next step to revolutionize healthcare. Disease is much easier to prevent than to cure. Dr. Jess would love to help heal you on every level through inspiration, knowledge, movement, nutrition, and eastern and western healing modalities.
